RMGF ANNUAL GATHERING AT KENILWORTH – 2023

Clearly the annual gathering of the Fellowship is not what it used to be, but you can see from these scenes from Kenilworth that those of us who come to the annual get-together still appreciate the pleasure of each other’s company. Every member of the fellowship is welcome, and we should be delighted if you would join us.

Do keep up to date by visiting the website. More detailed accounts of our doings and our thoughts will be in the Newsletter.

Letter from The President, Gerard Nosowski

Dear Friends in the Fellowship

So much has happened since I last wrote to the Fellowship.  2022 will certainly remain in the memory: the prolonged drought, the hottest day ever recorded in the UK, England’s footballers (ladies) winning the European Championship, England’s cricketers (men) winning a series of Test matches with last-day swashbuckling.  We lost a Prime Minister. Far more significant, we have lost our remarkable Queen.  Of course she will be missed, but I’m sure that King Charles
has our best wishes as, at last, he ascends the throne.

The summer climate extreme was uncomfortable, but manageable for most of us. But what lies ahead promises to be much more difficult.  We face high inflation and high energy prices, even with government help; Covid and flu might be widespread.  But I think that’s enough on that subject. We need to look forward to those things we should be enjoying – family and friends and good
companions.

It has not been easy in the last couple of years.  Our best times are when we join together for fellowship around the table and the bar.  Covid has prevented many of us from getting together, either because of legal restrictions or because of the risks involved. But things may be changing.  Some of our Groups have already met for lunch again, and there are meetings scheduled in October
and November.  I urge you all to try your best to renew our Fellowship by coming together once more.

I accept that this is becoming difficult, if not impossible, for many of you.  A suggestion has been made that on-line meetings might offer an alternative way to get together.  The EC has consulted with Groups to see whether this could work for some members of the Fellowship, but the suggestion has not been supported by those of you who replied.

However, I would remind everyone that, in addition to Group meetings, the EC still holds an annual get-together with a dinner and overnight stay.  Everyone is welcome, and the opportunity is there to meet friends who may not be part of your own regional Group.  The next meeting will be in the spring and Maggie McGrath will be writing to Groups when we fix a date and venue.  Meanwhile, let
us all do our best to maintain our contacts with each other.  Group secretaries, and the EC, are there to help you to stay in touch.

Very best wishes to you all,

Gerard

From your new President, Gerard Nosowski

I was proud and delighted, at our recent EC meeting, to be elected as your new President in succession to Alan Goddard and following in the footsteps of former Presidents Len Clifford and Doug Swanson. Margaret and I are looking forward to the next three years.

Of course, that requires three years of good health, and for most of us our health will be very much on our minds. Without wishing to dwell on the last couple of years of Covid, we have all suffered disruption to our lives and possibly lost family members and good friends.  At the very least the epidemic has prevented us from meeting in our regional groups and reduced us to meeting online.  We must all hope that brighter days may be ahead.

The EC met at last in October after two postponements and we hope to meet again in April.  The North East group also got together in reasonable numbers in October and plans are in place for the spring.  I do hope other groups will be planning springtime meetings.  Being with old friends from time to time is one of the pleasures of advancing years.  I should like to join the groups whenever I can and should be grateful if group organisers would let me know of their plans.  My email is:   gerard.nosowski@rmgf.net
You will be feeling the lack of a regular Newsletter. We hope that as we return to meeting together we can pass on news from the groups, and we shall aim to restart the Newsletter in the spring.  In the meanwhile, the website will be our principal means of passing on news.  Check us at rmgf.net

Our best wishes to all for a better 2022.
